Food in the Books: Books that I enjoyed reading for their novel presentation
Presenting one author of Telugu and One Book of English
When I was thinking of Food as a theme, I know am going to write about books surely. Selection and the criteria I wanted to be special and make the reader enjoy reading. One I always have in mind is an author Vamsi (who writes in Telugu, not sure if they are translated).
1. Vamsi is a writer, director, and producer in Telugu Film Industry. He worked during the years 1982-2017, wearing different hats. His books are based on real-life characters, in and around rural places, mostly in the places where he spent his childhood and later places his work took him to. He is known for his stories that contain food and the stories around them. I am sharing the books that contain the stories. The way he describes the dishes and their preparation and how they are consumed etc., made me enjoy his stories, without moving away from the main stories. Most of the dishes he talks about are non-vegetarian dishes, and the language used in his stories and preparation of the dishes are cultural and geographic-specific (to the riverbanks of river Godavari Andhra Pradesh).
2. The book that gave me a different perspective while reading related to food as a main part of the story is “the Kamogawa Food Detectives” by Hisashi Kashiwai. The story of the restaurant and how the daughter and father treat the clients and what is important is the story somewhere connected to food etc., gels into the story while exploring various aspects of human nature – love, relationships, and more.

I always pay special attention when books mention food. It's a great way of learning about your characters and the world they inhabit.
