While I was browsing through social media I found an interesting post by one of the editors Maria Popova. The post was about the book. I am aware of the opinion of Neil Gaiman about libraries and his appreciation of librarians’ work. Somehow the post raised curiosity.
The book is edited by Maria Popova and Claudia Zoe Bedrick. A subtitle suggests is a collection of letters collected by the editors as a project. The project involved various writers, scientists, musicians, and famous personalities. They were asked to write a letter about reading, books, libraries, and other areas to young readers. Around 125 letters from all walks of life were collected and each letter is accompanied by artwork of illustrators or artists based on each letter. The result is the book.
The reason why I selected to write about his book:
Each letter some of them are poems deals with the magic of words.
Why books are important and how the books made the writer of the letter connected, to the world of words.
Each letter explores the world that the books bring to the reader.
There are several comic strips
Each illustration or artwork will make the reader explore the books and their world.
Neil Gaiman in his letter apart from other things writes about why a few don’t like reading… That particular letter I believe has a universal appeal.
This particular book will be always on my table and when kids in a class don’t want to read, they ask me to read something. I pick up a letter and read aloud from that book. Kids always enjoy listening. It always created magic.
