A Velocity of Being: Letters to A Young Reader edited by Maria Popova, Claudia Bedrick
Book that I enjoyed reading and sharing
Initially I was planning to post this write-up for the World Book and Copyright Day, 23rd April 2024. All these days I posted alphabetical order in the same order, later felt why not another day. The reason I am posting about this book is this is a unique book to me that might inspire many when they see and read the book. A bit of background how I found this treasure, I saw a post on FB by Maria Popova who is one of the editors about the book and was curious and ordered the book 11th August 2019 and when I opened the book and started reading introduction by Maria Popova (who gives the background for this book’s production) I felt I took a wise decision to buy the book. Not going into too much of the story, the book is the result of 8 years of journey of two people who are also the editors of the book. This book contains letters from people who are into various professions letting know the young readers about reading and how that helped them, in the form of a letter. Each letter is printed corresponding with an illustration or artwork by various artists to bring the letter to the reader in a visual form. There are about 121 letters along with an illustration or art. Just to give you an example….
pp26-27
pp.182-183
There are certain names that I recognized when I first opened the book – Jacqueline Woodson, Neil Gaiman, Alain de Botton, Jane Goodall, Judy Blume, Seth Godin, Naomi Wolf, Richard Branson, Steven Pinker, Daniel Handler, Jon Scieszka, and Ursula K. Leguin. The letters contain amazing poetry, stories who shared about books, magic of books, libraries and so on. Try and venture into the journey and find out what it’s like to get into the world of books. Read and enjoy.
HAPPY READING
